Prof. Damodra Acharya, Ex chairman AICTE said, instead of teaching the fundamentals first and assuming that the studentwould learn how to apply them to problem solving, the need would be to reverse the order which would be more effective. Prof. Acharya quoted this during NEP 2020 introduction in the year 2019.

Establishment of SoC:

School of Computing was started to address the most important challenges faced in undergraduate programs i.e. the problem solving ability of the students. SoC was started in the year 2022 under the esteemed guidance and leadership of honorable secretary Sri. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Programming and Problem solving are not same: Programming is only a way to implement the solution but arriving to the solution is more important. Students need the skill to develop effective and efficient solution to a given problem.

Vision and Mission of SOC

Vision:

To be an epicenter of excellence, to nurture young minds in the field of problem solving and competitive programming.

Mission:

• To inculcate computational thinking and provide a platform to apply computational thinking skills in designing effective solutions for complex problems.
• To provide necessary infrastructure to train learners in various aspects of computation thinking, competitive programming and facilitate learners in using coding platforms effectively.
• To assess the learning curve of the learners by providing a customized learning management system and help the learners improve their problem solving skills.

Goals of SoC:

• To inculcate problem solving skills through block based programming, flowgarithm and pseudocode
• Impart experiential learning through Project Based Learning (PBL) and mini hackathons
• Develop self-learning abilities and self assessment through LMS.
• Provide a standard mechanism for learning curve measurement and management.
• Form student clusters based on domain expertise.

• Course on problem solving using scratch and logic based programming for I Year students.
• Problem solving sessions for II and III year students, through SoC Interns.
• Training program for hostel students thrice a week.
• Faculty development programs.
• Student training programs and workshops.
• Support to placement department in training programs.
• Soc plays a significant role in curriculum design.
• Online pre joining refresher course for upcoming fresher’s of management quota.

• Mr. Srinivas Mallampati, Industry expert is heading SoC. He has more than 25 years of Industry and trainingexperience. He is an expert in Java, Big Data, Blockchain and Contemporary Programming.
• Dr. P. Ram Mohan Rao is the content developer, trainer and an expert in programming with 21 years of teaching experience. He has many certifications to his name. He is an expert in competitive programming, Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and an eminent teacher.
• Mr. K. Praveen Kumar is the trainer and coordinator for SoC activities. He is also the scrum master.
• Mr. Balachary T, is the trainer and technical officer who looks after all assessments, feedback etc. He has around 10 years of teaching experience.
• Mr. Trishank: is the trainer and content developer with a special interest towards AI driven teaching methods. Has got masters from BITS Hyderabad.
• Mr. Kalyana Chakravarthy: is the trainer cum content developer, a DEVOPS practitioner with a MS degree in computer science from UK.
• Ms. P. Vani is the junior associate, SoC.
• Mr. T Rakesh is the junior associate, SoC.

FACILITIES @ SoC:

• Only college to have a fully distributed HADOOP CLUSTER with 256 GB RAM, 2 TB HDD, 24GHZ octacore Processor
• Apache Hadoop Ecosystem and Apache SPARK software framework
• Suitable for large scale big data applications, student projects and faculty research works.

Notable Achievements:

• SoC has successfully deployed a web application for National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR), Govt. of India in the year August 2024. Our students also got certificate for the project work.
